Eating & Drinking

Whether in need of a hearty lunch on a countryside ramble, seeking a quick snack for hungry children or looking forward to fine dining featuring local produce and wines from the Garden of England, visitors will find there is always excellent food and drink to be enjoyed close by.

The key town centres of Sevenoaks, Westerham, Edenbridge and Swanley are filled with a wide variety of restaurants and public houses serving meals to suit all tastes while the popular countryside villages show their warm welcome to visitors with top quality hospitality.

Whether preparing traditional English, Italian, Mexican, Indian or Thai, the District’s top chefs are increasingly opting to take advantage of high quality, fresh seasonal produce from local growers and farmers.

Chefs are also keen to introduce their guests to the red, white and sparkling wines from Kent’s many vineyards, cider and juices from Kentish orchards and, of course, the numerous Kent beers now on offer.

For a special treat, afternoon teas can also be savoured at historic locations such as Hever Castle, Chiddingstone Castle  and Penshurst Place.

The George and Dragon, at Chipstead, and the Leicester Arms in Penshurst, have both earned accolades from Michelin Guide inspectors. Meanwhile, beer enthusiasts are delighted by the beers and meals on offer at The Windmill in the village of Sevenoaks Weald. CAMRA named The Windmill as the Best Pub in West Kent 2014.
