St George’s Royal Air Force Chapel of Remembrance

St George’s Royal Air Force Chapel of Remembrance at Biggin Hill is on what was Royal Air Force Station, Biggin Hill, which will remain forever linked with the Battle of Britain in 1940. The Chapel is a memorial to all aircrew, who died flying from the Biggin Hill Sector.

17 Stained glass windows commemorate squadrons, aircrew and ground crew. The reredos records in gold lettering the names of those aircrew, who paid the ultimate sacrifice. Spitfire and Hurricane replicas stand guard at the gate. A Custodian will gladly show you around the Chapel. Whether you come out of interest or on a pilgrimage, whatever your age, you will learn something new and experience the peace of this wonderful memorial. There is an Anglican Service every Sunday at 9.30am and a Roman Catholic Mass each Saturday at 6pm.

  • Service for 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain on 13th September 2015 at 1030am.This may be the last service ever in this Chapel.

By March 2016, the Royal Air Force/Ministry of Defence are withdrawing all support from the Chapel. If no one or group takes on the responsibility of this magnificent Memorial Chapel, it will be closed without access to the public or church services.

This Chapel was built as a Memorial to Aircrew, who had their lives taken in World War ll, they fought and they died. We, today, have the freedom to forget.
